Grand Cayman to Host the First Large Convention of Jehovah’s Witnesses Since 2019
After a three-year pandemic pause, one of the largest convention organizations in the world has once again chosen Grand Cayman to host its global three-day event, the 2023 “Exercise Patience”! Convention in the Cayman Islands.
Since at least 2018, summers in Grand Cayman were marked by local Jehovah’s Witnesses across three language groups assembling in their Kingdom Halls to watch the streaming of a pre-recorded, convention programme. In 2020, the pandemic interrupted that tradition when the Witnesses cancelled their in-person gatherings throughout the world (Grand Cayman included) and held their convention programs as virtual events in more than 500 languages. Beginning July 28th, 2023, the Witnesses will bring that tradition back to Grand Cayman.
“This was the moment the friends were eagerly awaiting. It will be such a wonderful, exciting, highly welcomed, and thrilling experience to be together again after attending virtually for the past three summers,” said Terence Parris, Local Spokesman for Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Some 6,000 conventions will be held worldwide as part of the 2023 “Exercise Patience”! Convention series. In the Cayman Islands, there will be three convention events held in the two Kingdom Halls on the island, and across two language groups: an English language event will be held in the West Bay Kingdom Hall, and conventions in both English and Spanish will be held at the George Town Hall Each convention consists of six sessions that, under this year’s theme, will explore the quality of patience, highlighting its modern-day relevance through Scriptural examples. A live baptism will be performed following the Saturday morning session, and a prerecorded drama will be featured in two parts during the Saturday and Sunday afternoon sessions.
“The exercising of patience is something that is sorely lacking today, so to spend three days reviewing this quality will be of great help and is well worth the effort,” says Mr. Parris. “While losing patience can have a high cost, learning patience can improve nearly every aspect of our lives.”
Jehovah’s Witnesses have been holding public conventions in stadiums, arenas, convention centres, and theatres around the world for more than 100 years. After resuming smaller in-person meetings and their public ministry during 2022, the summer of 2023 marks the first time they will gather at much larger regional events around the world since the lifting of pandemic restrictions. While the long-standing event will be smaller on our Island; the Witnesses look forward to resuming the tradition of gathering together in person.
The convention is open to the public and no collection is taken. For more information on the program or to find other convention locations and dates, please go to jw.org and navigate to the “About Us” tab.
