Kehoe is Cayman’s five-goal star

Molly Kehoe excels in many sports

The Cayman Islands finished top of their group at the 2022 Concacaf Women’s Under-20 Championship Qualifying Islands as well as Bermuda to become the first two teams to qualify for next year’s CWU20 Championship.

Cayman can thank Molly Kehoe, the brilliant striker who has been consistently scoring at international level for years. Kehoe is immersed in sport as her family – dad Mick, mum Lisa and brother Tommy – all excel in various disciplines, particularly rugby.

Molly turned 17 only a month ago but her finishing was that of a veteran at the Ergilio Hato Stadium in Willemstad, Curacao last week. Besides football, Kehoe is an impressive runner and rugby player.

In the first Group B match, the Cayman Islands earned a 2-0 victory against Bahamas. Kehoe’s goals came in the 45th and 70th minutes to give them an excellent start. Then Kehoe hit a hat-trick in a 3-0 win against Anguilla to top another fine tournament showing.

She is a special talent. When the Cayman Islands women returned to international football after a two-year absence two months ago in a friendly against Turks and Caicos, she scored twice in the 4-0 win.

In the other groups in Curacao, Bermuda emerged as the top team in Group A and qualified for the 2022 CWU20 thanks to their 4-0 win over Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. Group C wrapped up with Saint Lucia claiming an 8-0 win over Antigua and Barbuda.

Belize closed out the action in Group D on a high note with a 6-1 triumph over Grenada.
