Kirk Home Centre Sponsors TechCayman’s Machine Learning Robotics Camp, Empowering Youth in STEM Education

TechCayman’s Machine Learning Robotics Camp, a two-day immersive weekend program focused on STEM learning, continues to inspire and educate Cayman’s youth. Sponsored by TechCayman, the camp provides an invaluable opportunity for young minds to explore the exciting world of technology. The camp has also received support from Kirk Home Centre, further enhancing its impact and reach in the community. This marks the fourth time Kirk Home Centre has sponsored TechCayman’s Machine Learning Robotics camp.

Brigitte Shaughness, General Manager at Kirk Home Centre, expressed the company’s commitment to supporting youth education and technological advancement. “Kirk Home Centre focuses charitable donations mainly on school-aged children and the elderly. However, our support for young children’s education did not include a tech component so teaming up with TechCayman was the perfect fit for us,” she said. “The TechCayman Robotics Camp provides an introduction to robotics for the children who attend, which brings out their creativity and imagination and prepares them for a rapidly changing world.”

The sponsorship from Kirk Home Centre extends beyond financial assistance, with the company also providing logistical support to ensure the success of the Machine Learning Robotics Camp. This collaboration underscores Kirk Home Centre’s dedication to empowering youth with the tools and knowledge they need to thrive in an increasingly digital landscape.

Andrew Armstrong, IT Manager at Kirk Home Centre and a mentor at the Machine Learning Robotics Camp, shared his insights into the transformative experience of mentoring young participants. “It is a pleasure to mentor the students who are excited to learn about the tech field in a hands-on learning environment,” he said. “It is especially rewarding to see how eager they are to learn more about technology and how it introduces ideas for possible future careers.”

Andrew emphasized the importance of fostering a supportive and collaborative environment where participants feel encouraged to explore, ask questions, and make mistakes. He highlighted the enthusiasm and creativity that participants bring to the table, underscoring the profound impact of mentorship in nurturing their growth and confidence.

“Working as a robotics mentor has been an incredibly enriching experience,” Andrew continued. “It’s a privilege to play a role in shaping the next generation of innovators and problem-solvers, and I look forward to continuing to inspire and support them in their robotics journey.”

Through Kirk Home Centre’s generous support, they are helping to empower youth with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in the digital age.
