The participation of 109 students, their enthusiasm and strong team spirit are some of the reasons that Layman E. Scott Sr. High School Principal Devon Bowen has described his school's recent Sports Day as a huge success.
"Despite the threat of rain, our athletes' competitive spirit and sporting prowess remained at an all-time high," Mr. Bowen also added while recounting students' attitude during the Sports Day that took place at the Cayman Brac Sports Complex last Friday (12 Friday).
At the close of the day's activities, Tradewinds accumulated 572 points to defeat rival houses Hurricane and Northwester which scored 564 and 527 points respectively.
Di'Jhaney Valentine was selected 18 & Under Champion Girl and Overall Champion Girl while under 14 and 18 Champion Boys Romarco Morrison and Curtis Hunt shared the title of Overall Champion Boy.
Other champions included Yzara Ebanks, Jovier Walton-Paz and Abigail Campbell.
Minister of Education, Youth, Sports, Agriculture & Lands, Hon. Juliana O'Connor-Connolly was on hand to present the trophies and medals to the winners.
LSHS Acting Principal Devon Bowen thanked Minister O'Connor-Connolly and others for their assistance. “I am pleased that the Minister was able to be a part of our Sports Day. She was a huge inspiration to our athletes. I also extend profound appreciation to all the individuals who did their part to ensure the success of the event,” Mr. Bowen stated.
