Fifty-eight per cent of 2022 Graduates earn Honours Diplomas

On Saturday evening (8 October), Layman E. Scott Snr. High School held its 2022 Graduation ceremony at the Aston Rutty Civic Centre under the theme, ‘Cherish today, Dream Tomorrow’.
Twenty-four per cent of the Class of 2022 (8 students) graduated with high honours, having received a minimum of nine Level 2 passes in their external examinations. Eleven of the 33 graduates earned honours diplomas after obtaining a minimum of seven Level 2 passes.
In his remarks, newly appointed Principal Devon Bowen said, “Your journey towards success started with tentative steps, maybe even some trepidation, but it has led to remarkable heights of accomplishment. You have encountered many trials and tribulations along the way, soldiered on and come out stronger.”
Mr. Bowen also reminded graduates about the importance of growth as they embark upon life’s unpredictable journey.
“Your journey in this life is about growth, not just grades. You have adapted and grown in this difficult time, which has undoubtedly enriched you and created a remarkable bond. Your qualities and values have been transformed, and you are becoming citizens of the world, with the ability to adapt to critical circumstances and provide solutions to humanity’s grand challenges.”
His Excellency Governor Martyn Roper charged graduates to dream big, set ambitious goals, do something they are deeply passionate about and continue to adopt a growth mindset pushing them out of their comfort zone.
Governor Roper later presented the Layman E. Scott Sr. Award to Class Salutatorian Aliyah Williams.
Guest speaker, Music educator and Layman Scott alumna, Dr. Kasandra Scott-Salazar, closed her remarks by stating, “Never be discouraged, take advantage of every opportunity that is presented to you, never hold back, give it all you got and fall forward.”
Among the many other participants in the evening’s proceedings were Ministry of Education Acting Chief Officer Ms. Lyneth Monteith, Acting Deputy Chief Officer Mr. Adrian Jones and DES Director Mr. Mark Ray.
