Dear Sir,
I am writing to express concerns about delays in garbage collection in the Prospect area as well as yesterday's unannounced closure of the public drop-off.
The Hon. Minister of Commerce and Finance's claim in your newspaper of August 14th that Cayman's finances are still going strong would mystify most persons given the situation where in a country that is as seemingly rich as Cayman, there are monumental problems with garbage collection, recycling etc. etc.
Prior to the last five years there was not a problem as garbage was collected twice per week. However, the population has been allowed to become three times larger with no plan to address this critical area.
The staff of the Department of Environmental Health are helpful, courteous and professional but they cannot make changes without the proper leadership at the helm of their Ministry.
The newly appointed Director is an outstanding civil servant. He needs the funding to support the necessary changes which will provide an excellent service.
I sincerely hope that this government will take action as we all deserve better.
Sincerely,
Nyda Flatley
