Just after 8:30AM on Thursday, 20 February, police had cause to stop a blue Honda Civic that was travelling along Eastern Avenue in George Town. Using emergency lights and sirens, the officers attempted to stop the vehicle, however the driver of the vehicle failed to stop for the police. The officers followed the vehicle after assessing that it was safe to do so.
On arriving in the Washington Blvd area, the driver of the offending vehicle stopped the vehicle and exited, then ran away from the officers on foot. The officers made chase, however the man escaped. The officers continued to search in the surrounding area.
Shortly after the incident, the police were later informed that the driver of the vehicle received serious but non-life-threatening injuries after running away from the police. The man was located and spoken to by the police and was warned for intended prosecution for several driving offenses. The Emergency Medical Services were notified and attended the location where the man was located and he was transported to the hospital for treatment.
The vehicle he was driving was searched by the officers but nothing illegal was found. The matter is under investigation by the police.
