March for Jesus: March and Motorcade

The March for Jesus originated in the United Kingdom in the 1980’s and over the decades has evolved into an international event, including the United States and on Saturday, 27 May 2023 the Cayman Islands’ will participate also.  The March for Jesus event has been re-visioned to a march and motorcade to allow the disabled and elderly to participate in the event. The march and motorcade is a multi-denominational assembling of Christians who will proclaim their faith in Jesus Christ and confirm that “Jesus Reigns” in the Cayman Islands through their unification in public worship of the Lord Jesus Christ and will impact people with praise, prayer, and proclamation. 

“The event (march and motorcade) is not a demonstration against any issue; it is not a protest”, says Pastor Ellen Peguero, one of the Steering Committee members. “It is a declaration of our faith and living up to the motto of our nation. It’s a time of celebrating our faith in Jesus Christ, across the many denominations - not one church but all of us coming together - under one banner: the banner of our Lord, Jesus Christ, who reigns. It is about unity in Christ, peace, praise; it is all about Jesus Christ”, she concluded. The Committee is comprised of pastors and citizens and, along with Pastor Ellen, include Pastors Elizabeth Bowen, Christopher Rose, Justin French, Neriah LeBlanc, and citizens Kattina Anglin, Elfreda Ebanks, Rina Ebanks and Mark Matthews.

Motorcade, March, and Praise and Worship Event.

The Cayman event starts at Seven Mile Public Beach at 3pm and ends at the Legislative Assembly building. Participants are invited to converge at Seven Mile Public Beach from 2pm.  Transportation from the outlying districts will also be available for those who do not have their own vehicles. The procession will be led by the Pathfinders from the Cayman Islands Conference of Seventh Day Adventists, followed by a dance troupe led by the Frank Sound Chapel Church of God, those who are marching follow and even bicyclists and motor bike riders are also invited to participate in the event as well, but the organizers require that these be disciplined, law-abiding riders only. The motorcade will bring up the rear.

A praise and worship event will commence at 6pm in front of the Legislative Assembly with dancers, performers and music as well as celebrations, speeches and prayers from various churches and Christian organizations.

Registration

The organisers are hopeful that all Cayman churches have been notified by email but any church that hasn’t received an email should contact the organizers via email at caymanchristiancivics@gmail.com by phone on 922-0133, or visit the website, www.christian.ky/march-for-jesus-2023.  Churches and organizations should register to participate; registration is free and takes about one minute to complete online.  Not being registered will not preclude any church from participating, said Pastor Ellen, but it will make organizing the event a whole lot easier.
