Last Friday was the end of the first week of school, and in West Bay there was a joy-filled celebration happening in a white building on Town Hall Road. The Ministry of Peace Church held its Youth Rally 2019, geared specifically to ages 5-13. It was a truly unique event; and inspiring as well.
The evening began with group warm-ups, both the physical and vocal kinds, and an Olympic style parade, complete with the singing of national song. There was a prayer, and songs meant to inspire, leading into the main activities. The activities were led by parents of the youth, themselves members of the church. There were races, and games, and competitions, and games, and entertainment, and games, and drama, and more games; all with an inspiring message interwoven seamlessly.
Now, this budding church in the heart of West Bay has a three-fold emphasis. As Pastor Mitchell Ebanks-Exctain eloquently explained, the goal is, “To present the Gospel, promote Family, and uplift Discipleship of Jesus Christ as the highest profession there is.” This youth rally attended to all three parts of the church’s mission.
From the time I set foot in the building prior to the event, until I left, I felt a warm spirit of welcome. As each child and their parent arrived, it was evident they were drawn in by that same feeling as well. Pastor Mitch’s volunteer event staff were inviting, kind and caring; and their love shone brightly.
The children obviously knew they were in a safe place, both physically and emotionally, and their faces were pasted with permanent smiles. This was a refreshing sight, as so many children nowadays often appear to be burdened by the cares of the world. On this evening, in this place, there was a joy exuding from these children. The adults exuded it, too.
Since the theme of this evening’s event was “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me,” it was reassuring to see the youth exhibiting that this was a belief held strong. The world needs more young people who feel that the possibilities are limitless; especially in a time when others around are only seeking to tear them down, discourage them, and destroy their dreams. The Ministry of Peace Church is undoubtedly doing a good thing. This ministry is active winning hearts, securing souls, and cultivating dreams of Cayman’s youth.
