Leadership coach Jon Lokhorst tosses a newspaper into the crowd as part of a presentation on leadership on day one of the AICPA & CIMA / CIIPA 2022 Momentum Conference.

Nearly 200 people attended the AICPA & CIMA and Cayman Islands Institute of Professional Accountants (CIIPA) annual Momentum conference last week at the Kimpton Seafire Resort + Spa, engaging with leaders from some of the world’s largest companies and professional organisations.

Session topics at the hybrid virtual and in-person event ranged from sustainability, digital assets, leadership and mental health to internal audit and anti-money laundering updates. Presenters from companies like Amazon, Deloitte, PwC, the AICPA and the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) joined government leaders for a summit aimed at providing opportunities for attendees to stay on top of developments around the globe that impact the local accounting, financial services and other industries.

Finance Minister Hon. Christopher Saunders opened the event with a Cayman Islands economic update while Financial Services Minister Hon. Andre Ebanks delivered welcome remarks on day two.

“CIIPA’s vision is to contribute to the credibility and sustainability of the Cayman Islands,” CIIPA Chief Executive Officer Sheree Ebanks said. “Conferences like this featuring the calibre of presenters this lineup offered can only enhance trust and confidence in the jurisdiction and the profession through its educational and networking opportunities.”

This marked the first time in two years CIIPA partnered with the AICPA to host the event. The American Institute of Certified Professional Accountants (AICPA) and The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) together form the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants, also referred to as the AICPA. The organization represents 689,000 members, students and engaged professionals in public and management accounting and advocates for the public interest and business sustainability on current and emerging issues.

CIIPA would like to thank the event sponsors, including Deloitte, PwC, KPMG, Ministry of Financial Services and Commerce and EY.
