The Ministry of Tourism and Ports is thrilled to celebrate Caymanian bodybuilder Robert Thompson Jr.’s recent international victories, which have propelled him to the top ranks of natural bodybuilding worldwide. Competing in prestigious competitions such as the BNBF Finals, Muscle Mayhem, Mr. America, and the Drug-Free Athlete Coalition (DFAC) Finals, Thompson’s accomplishments have not only placed him among the world’s elite but have also inspired a budding community of bodybuilders here in the Cayman Islands.

Thompson’s performance this season has been marked by an exceptional series of first-place wins and an impressive second-place ranking on the global stage. Most notably, Robert became the United Kingdom’s best bodybuilder of the year by winning the BNBF British Finals in the Pro Category for Open Bodybuilding held in London. He followed this victory with a first-place finish at Muscle Mayhem, representing Cayman on home soil, with pride and passion.

Recently, on October 20, 2024, Robert capped off his season with a second-place finish in the Pro Heavyweight Category at the DFAC World Finals in Munich, solidifying his status as a top natural bodybuilder globally. The DFAC World Finals was a fiercely challenging competition for Thompson, who competed against the top natural bodybuilders worldwide to defend his title. Despite not winning the top spot this year, Thompson placed second in the world and received recognition for having the most detailed legs on the planet, further adding to his legacy.

“These accomplishments make me feel as though I’m on the right path, both physically and mentally,” Thompson shared. “It’s incredibly rewarding to represent my home on such a vast international platform, especially knowing how small our island is compared to the millions of people across the globe.”

The Ministry of Tourism and Ports has been proud to sponsor Thompson’s journey, as he represents the Cayman Islands internationally. “Bodybuilding is not a cheap pursuit, and I’m grateful for the support I’ve received from the government, which has allowed me to compete and showcase Cayman’s talent on an international level. I look forward to continuing this partnership in ways that elevate the sport here.” Robert added.

Thompson’s contributions to the sport locally are already evident; he has helped coach nine athletes this year, all of whom either won or placed in the top three of their respective categories. His vision for the future includes establishing a bodybuilding federation in the Cayman Islands, recognizing the growing talent and passion among young Caymanians. “My goal is to continually improve and, ultimately, to foster a strong bodybuilding community in Cayman,” he said. “This year has been a stepping stone, and I’m looking forward to defending my titles and competing next year in major shows like the OCB Yorton Cup.”

Robert Thompson Jr. will return to Grand Cayman on Saturday, October 26, at 4:10 PM on British Airways flight BA253. The Ministry of Tourism and Ports encourages supporters to welcome him home and celebrate his accomplishments as Cayman’s professional bodybuilding champion.
