Barbara Connolly, MP for George Town South organized a big day out for the retired folks in her constituency recently. Each constituent was picked up at their home address then onto the at the PPM office on Crewe Road to pick up Mr. Roy McTaggart at 11 am. “What kind of music do we want to listen to? Country?” Yes. We all like to listen to country music when you’re going to see so much countryside.

Things look different from a bus, high up, and it’s so nice to just relax and look at everything going past. We headed out of George Town and through Bodden Town, through Breakers and past the Blow Holes. First stop was the Eastern Star Bar & Fish Fry, for the very best fish and fritters. Mahi-Mahi or Snapper? Whatever you chose it tasted great, and even better because everyone was having fun and it was right by the sea, where all the guests lined up for a good old bus outing photo. The feast, all provided-for by the MP Barbara Conolly, was finished with homemade some ice-cream and chocolate cake. It was a good time to talk with old friends and catch up on things before heading off to the Former Premier’s 23 Acres of the Garden of Eden; grounds that were in the McLaughlin family for a long time.

“How’s was the fish?” asked former Premier, Alden McLaughlin as the folks got off the bus. “Good so far man, I enjoyed it man,” came the reply. Everyone was shaking hands and hugging as they got off the bus at Mr. McLaughlin’s beautiful East End farm. Where each person was welcomed with a chilled fresh cut coconut. A gentleman said “I never knew all this was happening up here, first time in a very long time I had the opportunity to drive out to this side of the island, I love it, I just love how it makes me feel right now.” Soon, it was time for more hugs as everybody was given a big paper bag full of fruits and then it was time to get back on the bus for George Town. On the way back there was a brief visit to the construction site of the new residential mental health facility nearby.

The bus was filled with lots of excitement and laughter as the guests shared the best moments of the day. “Ms. Barbara has always been there for us. It’s not all about what you can get from them, but it’s really thought that we have a lady who genuinely cares for us and our community”, one lady commented. Their Love and Respect was real towards the representative of GTS. “We love you Ms. Barbara, this is the first time I have ever been able to be so comfortable around a lady in your position, you are so down to earth” another of the guests said. “I love you all too and this is one of the things I enjoy most in my job, getting to know the people who I represent. It’s my pleasure having you all with me today it warms my heart to been able to do this for you all,” Ms Connolly replied.

“I am looking forward to many more opportunities like this with the help of my GTS Constituency Office Administrative Assistance, Mrs. Vicky Forero who continues to provide the support to make these types of events possible. We will be extending quarterly invites within constituency of GTS on various outings and special events.”
