With Cayman’s elections just a few months away now, candidates are beginning to declare themselves in the running for the leadership of the country after 26th May. One such candidate is former Digicel CEO Raul Nicholson-Coe, CEO/Owner of Catalyst, a mechanical, electrical and plumbing company. Mr Nicholson-Coe will be running as an Independent candidate for the Member of Parliament for West Bay South.

Mr Nicholson-Coe said he was extremely proud and excited about the opportunity to represent the people of this constituency.

“My focus will be to ensure that we address the issues that have prevented the progression of our Caymanian community,” he stated. “This is a unique constituency as it encompasses a large part of the hospitality industry as well as a socio-economically diverse set of residences. While this is unique, it creates the opportunity to develop solutions that can address the economic and social issues that are affecting us in these extremely difficult times. It’s important to realise the issues faced by one Caymanian is not the same for all, however through regular collaboration with the community I hope to improve the lives of those in my constituency.”

Mr Nicholson-Coe said he would be meeting and canvassing the entire West Bay South constituency to get insights on the issues that are affecting them.

“During these difficult times it is important we get a better understanding of the social, economic, education, employment, housing and health issues that our community is facing. Policies to address these issues cannot be developed without engaging the entire community,” he said.

Voters will see his plans on issues such as the cost of living, employment opportunities and education, opportunities for the youth, housing, conservation and cultural identity. He also plans to focus on creating a post-Covid economic and social recovery plan.

Mr Nicholson-Coe has more than 20 years’ experience in telecommunications as the former Digicel Cayman CEO and presently serves as Senior Advisory to the Board of Directors. He currently serves on several Boards; he is a member of the Special Economic Advisory Council and is also the Deputy Chairman of the Innovation and Technology sub-committee and a Board member of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Cayman Islands, and a Trustee of the International College of the Cayman Islands.

He served as a Trustee on the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Commerce Pension Fund and was a member of the Cayman Islands Cycling Association. He is a former member of the Board of Directors of CUC and Director of the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority.
