Nine staff from across the Ministry of Education (MoE), the Department of Education Services (DES), and government schools were recently trained by a Principal Trainer, Ms. Karen Harris, from Team Teach in the UK, to be certified Team Teach intermediate trainers.
The five-day intensive training course, which commenced on 22 August, aimed to equip and certify participants to train staff on responding to challenging situations and behaviours in ways that lead to desirable outcomes and positive relationships at work or in daily life.
MoE Policy Advisor-Safer Schools Mrs. Sheryl Patterson is the Team Teach Coordinator. She is also one of the newly certified trainers.
Mrs. Patterson commented, “As trainers, we can now deliver Team Teach Positive Behaviour Management level one and two courses to staff within the various schools, ensuring they have the confidence and strategies needed to de-escalate challenging situations.”
In her capacity as Programme Coordinator, Mrs. Patterson will also be responsible for monitoring the training activities to ensure that the highest standards are maintained.
MoE Acting Chief Officer Ms. Lyneth Monteith remarked, “Quite often, our educators are tasked with resolving conflicts within the classroom or the general school environment. So, I am pleased that the Team Teach programme will add to the range of skills and strategies educators can use in these situations. I look forward to the commencement of training sessions in the various educational institutions.”
