Cayman sadly lost another person to Covid-related illness during the first week of May, bringing the death toll up to 28 since the start of the pandemic.
The patient was elderly and had severe co-morbidities. This death was previously reported in the daily Covid-19 updates issued by the Ministry of Health and Wellness. In addition, during the first week of May there were a total of 748 new cases of Covid-19 reported by Public Health. This was 144 cases more than what was reported in the previous week to the end of April.
Officials noted that 2,185 tests were conducted during the first week of May, up from the 1,897 tests in the last week of April and 1,419 tests during the week before that. The test positivity rate has remained stable over the past few weeks, with around one third of people tested testing positive, and was at 34 percent for the first week of May.
During this week there were also 12 inpatients admitted to hospital. Of these, all were vaccinated (two doses) and 40 percent had received third doses/boosters.
There have been 273 Covid-19 patients admitted since March 2020 to 7 May 2022.
