The Passport and Corporate Services Office is advising the public to check their passports to ensure all is in order ahead of the upcoming hurricane season, which begins Saturday, 1 June 2024.
As part of the general hurricane season preparedness plan, the public should:
• Check their passport expiry date to ensure validity for the dates of travel,
• Check that their passport is valid according to the country’s entry requirements. For example, when travelling to the United States, the British Overseas Territories passport must be valid for at least six months after the date of intended departure from United States,
• Apply for/renew passports ahead of travel time (during peak periods processing time can increase to 10 to 12 weeks), and
• Apply for and process any necessary visas as required for their travel.
In commenting, a representative of the Office explained, “a crucial part of hurricane preparedness is checking travel documents to ensure they are valid in case the need arises for emergency travels.”
