Payten Wight wins second golf event in the inaugural Grant Thornton Summer Series

Caymanian golfer Payten Wight won the second event in the inaugural Grant Thornton Summer Series, played on Saturday, 2 July and Sunday, 3 July at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club.

The World Amateur Golf Ranking (“WAGR”) 72-hole match-play event was played over two days featuring a field of 16 top amateur and professional players, including Aaron and Andrew Jarvis, Barry Daly and Cameron Leitch. After four rounds of the knockout format matchplay, Wight finished with a three and two victory against Giles Hobday in the final round on Sunday afternoon.

Wight’s ranking moved up 1,200 places in the WAGR to 1,181 in the world, while Hobday moved up 808 places to 2,436. Aaron Jarvis remains the top-ranked Cayman Islands player at 465 in the world.

“Congratulations to Payten on a strong event,” says Greg O’Driscoll, Partner and Head of Asset Management and Business Development at Grant Thornton Cayman Islands. “We are thrilled to follow such talented local players, and to continue supporting the development of golf in the Cayman Islands.”

Event 3 and Event 4, which will be the final events of the series, will be held at the North Sound Golf Club on 13-14 August and 3-4 September respectively. Anyone with a handicap of six or lower interested in participating in the WAGR events can email wagrcayman@gmail.com to register.
