Police Investigate Murder in George Town, 2 July
Shortly after 11:00PM last night, 1 July, officers responded to a report of shots fired on Martin Drive in George Town. It was reported that two men had been shot, one of whom was unresponsive. Emergency services attended the location and both men were transported to hospital. A third man also attended the hospital with a gunshot wound that he was reported to have sustained in the same incident. The unresponsive man, age 36 of George Town, was subsequently pronounced dead.
Shortly before 11:50PM a fourth man attended the hospital in a private vehicle, with a gunshot wound. It is uncertain at this time whether this shooting is related to the incident on Martin Drive.
The matter is under investigation and a Major Incident Room has been opened. Anyone with any information is asked to contact the RCIPS Major Incident Room, at 649-2930.
"We understand that this is concerning, especially in light of other recent firearm incidents," says Deputy Commissioner Kurt Walton. "In response, we are deploying additional armed patrols for heightened armed visibility. We would like to assure members of the community that we are taking this incident seriously, and public safety is always our first priority."
