In Honduras, the mayor of Roatan, Jerry Hynds, was allegedly caught escorting a tanker truck in which they were at least two tons of cocaine with a street value of millions of dollars. If convicted, Hynds faces many years in jail.
Together with Hynds, three others were arrested. The capture took place in the Roatan roundabout last Friday. The truck loaded with cocaine went ahead and the mayor followed it in an SUV. Hynds and the three others appeared before a judge in Tegucigalpa on Saturday and charged with drug trafficking. They appeared in court again on Thursday (Sept. 2). Hynds’ lawyers deny all involvement.
The operation was coordinated by the Public Ministry through the Special Prosecutor Against Organized Crime (Fescco) and Atic. Agents from the Department Against Organized Crime and Atic crime scene processing technicians carried out the inspection of three automobiles involved.
