Rough Seas and Rain forecasted this week

The National Hurricane Center is issuing advisories on Tropical

Storm Eta, located over the central Caribbean Sea.

Tropical cyclone formation is not expected during the next 5 days.

Tropical Storm Eta formed overnight and currently has winds of 40 mph.

The storm is located about 205 miles SSE of Kingston, Jamaica and is moving west at 15 mph.

Hurricane warnings have been issued for parts of Honduras and Nicaragua as the storm is expected to strengthen into a Category 1 Hurricane as the storm approaches Central America later this week.

Eta is the 28th named storm of the 2020 Atlantic hurricane season meaning that 2020 has tied 2005 for the most named storms in a single hurricane season.

Here in the Cayman Islands, the National Weather Service has forecasted

Isolated showers with moderate to fresh northeasterly winds and seas that will continue across the Cayman area for the next 24 hours in association with the tightening of the pressure gradient over the Western Caribbean and the passage of a tropical wave. The wave is currently over the Cayman area moving west.

Partly cloudy skies with rain and thunderstorms are forecasted for then next few days. Showers may become locally heavy at times leading to possible flooding of low lying area.

Winds are South to southeast ranging from 15 to 30 knots with higher gusts

The sea state is rough with wave heights of 5 to 7 feet on Monday and Tuesday and may increase to 7 – 9 feet on Thursday.

A small craft warning will be in effect from Monday.
