Schools battle for supremacy in primary football

Sports 16 Oct, 2024 Follow News

Action between Prospect Primary (purple and yellow) Under 11s and Cayman Brac.

Action continued in the CUC Primary Football League (PFL) and the Girls’ Primary Football League (GPFL) this past Saturday, October 12th as participating schools battled for positive results prior to the mid-term break.

In Group A in the CUC PFL, undefeated Sir John A. Cumber Primary and Cayman International School (CIS) are contesting for top spot. The two schools were scheduled to face each other in a top of the table clash at the West Bay Town Hall Field this past Saturday but due to CIS enjoying their mid-term break this week, the Under 9 and 11 games were postponed to a later date.

In other Group A Under 9 games, St. Ignatius Catholic edged Joanna Clarke Primary 1-0 and Marie Martin Primary settled for a 2-2 draw with Cayman Prep 9B. In the Under 11 division, St. Ignatius Catholic beat Joanna Clarke Primary 4-0 (respect rule enforced), Cayman Prep 11B edged Marie Martin Primary 2-1 and Island Primary defeated Theoline L. McCoy Primary 5-1.

In the Under 11 division in Group B, Prospect Primary’s consistency is paying off as they challenge defending Under 11 champions Cayman Prep 11A for supremacy in the group. Currently unbeaten and enjoying a rich vein of form, Prospect Primary’s older boys notched yet another victory as they defeated Cayman Brac 5-2. In other Under 11 games, Footsteps School got past NorthEast Schools 3-1 and defending champions Cayman Prep 11A beat Small Schools 4-0 (respect rule enforced).

In the only Under 9 game played in Group B, Prospect Primary defeated Island Primary 9B 2-0.

In Group A in the CUC GPFL, Sir John A. Cumber Primary overcame Cayman International School GA 4-2 and St. Ignatius Catholic downed Joanna Clarke Primary 3-0. In Group B, Cayman Prep secured another win with a 2-0 victory over Red Bay Primary.

There are no CUC PFL or GPFL games scheduled for Saturday, October 19th and 26th as most schools are on their mid-term break. The leagues resume on Saturday, November 2nd with games at Island Primary, Red Bay Primary, Prospect Primary, Camana Bay, Annex Field and the West Bay Town Hall Field.

As coordinators of the CUC PFL/GPFL, the Cayman Youth Football Leagues (CYFL) organisation thank Progressive Distributors and Gatorade for their continuing support of the CUC PFL and GPFL.
