The government of the Turks and Caicos Islands is threatening tough action against persons and businesses that don’t comply with the COVID-19 protocols.
For businesses, this involves disregarding the curfew hours. An 11 pm to 5am curfew is in place on all the islands until 30 June 2021 with businesses required to close at 10 PM.
Speaking during a press conference, the Minister of Health Jay Saunders observed that “for most persons the compliance has been pretty good, but we know that there are people who are non-compliant and we can’t have that.”
He said, “I am tired of talking about those offenders and we’re going to give you one last time to comply, because we know who you are, and if you don’t comply, which means that businesses are supposed to be closed at 10 p.m.”
Mr Saunders warned businesses that don’t comply that “we will come down and deal with you harshly. We cannot have businesses around here and persons around here putting the country at risk.”
Businesses that break the curfew face a fine of $5,000 first the initial offence with a forced closure of eight days on a second offence and 15 days shut down for breaking the curfew three times.
