SUSPENDED SENTENCE FOR SPEAKER ON ASSAULT CHARGES

Speaker of the Cayman Islands Parliament, McKeeva Bush, was on Monday found guilty and given a suspended sentence over a series of assault charges against him from an altercation earlier this year.

Mr Bush had already pleaded guilty to three of the charges stemming from the incident involving a female manner of a beach bar in February.

He was sentenced to two months suspended for two years on each count plus slapped with a 60-day 6pm to 6am curfew - except for occasions when the Parliament is sitting. During that time he will be required to be in his home within one hour after the sitting.

Mr Bush has also been ordered to pay a court fine of CI$700 plus compensation amounting to CI$4,279 to the victim of the assault.

He has to pay both by April failing which he faces 90 days in prison.
