With Cayman Airways recently receiving their fourth 737-800 series aircraft, the entire fleet is new and modern. This has been promoted as something that will improve CAL’s service. So, our reporter took to the streets to gauge the public’s feelings on this matter. The specific question posed was, “Cayman Airways has received its 4th aircraft. What are your feelings about this and how will it help the Cayman Islands?” Below are the responses of 12 individuals.
Joseph, Caymanian, 36:
“I think it is a good thing. Those new planes are more fuel efficient and can travel farther so the possibility of flights to other places has opened up now.”
Greg, Caymanian, 54:
“To tell you the truth, I hope it means lower prices on tickets.”
Hank, Caymanian, 47:
“I hope Cayman Airways doesn’t think that everyone has forgotten about the problems that this aircraft has had, including the crashes. I don’t think I will be flying on them anytime soon.”
Lisa, Caymanian, 51:
“I heard something about there is going to be flights to Seattle now, so I am excited. I always wanted to go there, and this would be a good opportunity.”
Francesca, Caymanian, 31:
“More efficient and newer aircraft should mean lower prices and safer flights. I hope that is what happens.”
Marissa, Caymanian, 45:
“Actually, I am not sure how I feel about this. If Cayman Airways is right, then it is a good thing for Cayman. I know that sometimes things don’t always work out how they are supposed to, though.”
Nick, Caymanian, 43:
“If there is anything I have learned over the years is that you should never believe everything you hear. I want to believe that this is a good thing but, I still worry about the crashes and the problems Boeing had with this model aircraft before.”
Lincoln, American on work permit, 33:
“Newer aircraft is always a good thing. It means safer flights, smoother running engines, and less breakdowns. I think it is a good thing for Cayman Airways.”
David, Caymanian, 51:
“If these planes are as good as is being said, then I am all for it. I would hope that the tickets prices reflect the improvement in fuel efficiency and increased passenger carrying capacity.”
Vernon, Caymanian, 52:
“I like it. The new planes are faster, bigger and can save on gas. I hope that Cayman Airways starts flights to some new airport like LA or Detroit. That would be really good.”
Justina, Caymanian, 29:
“If you believe everything that Cayman Airways is saying about these new planes, then you only know half the story. Yes, it is true that they will be more fuel-efficient, can carry more passengers, and can fly farther than the other planes. But, what about the problems that were happening with these 737-800 aircraft? Can we be completely sure that Boeing has fixed the glitch? I would like to believe that but, I think I will just play the wait-and-see game for now.”
Jennifer, Jamaican on work permit, 43:
“I hear good things about these new planes, and I like it. Cayman Airways is always trying to get better and better. Maybe the ticket prices will come down, too. That would be like the icing on the cake.”
