Vaccine hesitancy is also a concern for the new government in the Turks and Caicos Islands.
It’s one of the challenges the new Progressive National Movement government has encountered with the Health Minister Jay Saunders urging residents, especially nationals, to come forward for their jab.
“Foreigners who are living here are lining up (for the vaccine) but we Turks and Caicos Islanders seem to be taking a wait-and-see approach,” he observed.
Speaking during a government press conference, Mr Saunders sent a message that in addition to the personal and public health necessity, plans to reopen the economy in June depend on the increasing the rate of vaccinations.
He cautioned that “if we are getting people vaccinated all the way down to November or December just trying to finish this thing out, we’re going to run out of time before we have to start it all over again and it will be a complete disaster. That is why we need to get it to June.”
