Two exceptional students from TechCayman’s Hackerspace program, Ashutosh and Moshika, have recently achieved outstanding success at the Rotary Science Fair, showcasing their passion for science, innovation, and community engagement.
Moshika, a budding scientist with a keen interest in environmental conservation, shared her journey and inspiration behind participating in the Rotary Science Fair: “Participating in the Rotary Science Fair has been an incredibly rewarding journey for me. It allowed me to research topics that I am passionate about and to showcase my ideas to a wider audience. Winning the 2nd prize in the Environmental Science category is a humbling honor, and I am grateful for the opportunity to have participated in such a prestigious event.”
Her project, titled “Sargassum Sensation: Sprouting Sustainable Solutions in the Cayman Islands,” investigated the use of sargassum seaweed as a fertilizer for local gardens. Through meticulous experimentation and research, Moshika demonstrated the potential of sargassum as a sustainable and effective alternative to traditional fertilizers, highlighting its nutrient-rich composition and environmental benefits.
Meanwhile, Ashutosh, a coding enthusiast known for his love of challenges, expressed his appreciation for the supportive environment at TechCayman’s Hackerspace: “What I love the most about programming is that it is challenging, but the feeling of getting something to work is one of the most amazing feelings, in my opinion. Hackerspace has helped me massively as the people there are really knowledgeable and willing to help. I got all my planning done in a fun and educational way, which I really like.” Ashutosh’s innovative approach and technical prowess earned him the prestigious first-place title at the Rotary Science Fair.
TechCayman’s Hackerspace program, a weekly in-person programming workshop, played a pivotal role in nurturing the talents and passions of these young innovators. Led by Philip Liu, Education Program Coordinator at TechCayman, the Hackerspace provides a collaborative space for students to explore coding and STEM concepts in a supportive and engaging environment.
