A further 10 positive COVID-19 cases were confirmed today bringing the total to 121 cases tested positive here.
This contrasts with no positive cases in the previous test results yesterday.
Chief Medical Officer, Dr John Lee, reports that 383 COVID-19 tests were done in the last 24 hours through the screening programme.
He said the ten positive results likely represent community-acquired cases for whom isolation and contact tracing has already begun.
None of these cases appears to be linked to each other.
It's also reported that all of the additional 28 tests taken at HMP Northward yesterday were negative.
There are currently no hospitalisations associated with the COVID-19 with the last case presenting for clinical management on 27 April.
The CMO reported that all positive cases reported since then, have been discovered through the wider screening programme, and all of the persons were asymptomatic - they displayed no noticeable symptoms of the virus.
Dr Lee has previously cautioned that the asymptomatic results show that the disease is still very present in the community.
He has described it as “hiding away in the community and a lot more present than we might think it is” and has urged residents to continue to be vigilant and to follow the safety protocols.
The extended testing program is continuing with 7,959 persons tested to date of an initial approximate target of 10,000.
There has only been one COVID-19 death in the Cayman Islands and 55 persons have fully recovered from the disease.
The HSA's polymerase chain reaction (PCR) laboratory is going through a scheduled maintenance day and so will only be reporting clinically urgent specimens.
