THIRD WORLD HEADLINES ROOTS ROCK REGGAE CONCERT

Reggae legends Third World will bring the curtains down on this year’s Cayman Islands Agricultural Show with a post-event concert this Friday February 16th.

The globe-trotting Jamaican band which has been performing at reggae festivals across the globe will bring their extensive catalogue of hits to thousands of fans when they headline the Roots Rock Reggae show at the Agricultural Fair Grounds in Bodden Town.

 “Cayman, it’s been a long time and we’re really looking forward to it,” bandleader, guitarist and founding member Stephen ‘Cat’ Coore said in a social media post alongside leader singer AJ Brown – vocals, and Tony ‘Ruption’ Williams - drummer.

 Performing along with Third World will be reggae star Duane Stephenson, and Cayman’s own Mr Notch, Local Motion, Heat, Super C and Revolution Band.

 Known globally as the ‘reggae ambassadors’ - the title of one of their numerous hit songs - Third World is currently on another world tour - this time celebrating 50 years in the music business.

The band has a massive array of hits from the international chart-topper Now That We’ve Found Love to a range of roots reggae and reggae-fusion anthems.

Their hit list includes smashes such as Try Jah Love (with Stevie Wonder), the classic rootsy 96 Degrees In The Shade, the disco-influenced Dancing On The Floor, the dance hall vibe of “Reggae Party” featuring Shaggy, lovers rock Front Door with Gregory Isaacs, to more recent releases from their last album Mire Work To Be Done.

With over 30 albums to their credit, Third World rightfully boasts on the website of “46 Years of Music! 9 Grammy Nominated LPs!”, so fans will have more than enough to dance and sing along to on Friday night.

Third World is famous as “one of Jamaica’s most consistently popular crossover acts among international audiences. Mixing in elements of R&B, funk, pop, and rock and, later on, dancehall and rap, Third World’s style has been described as “reggae-fusion”.

In an interview for the Caymanian Times newspaper, (a co-sponsor of the February 16th Roots Rock Reggae Live Concert), the band’s keyboards player, Norris “Noriega” Webb said they are looking forward to performing in Cayman: “Yes most definitely. It’s time again for some quality roots.”

Asked about his favourite destination to play, his response was: “They are all very special and it would be difficult to choose a favourite, but Cayman would be in the top five.”
