TRUMP TESTS POSITIVE FOR COVID

In a development that has sent shockwaves across the US and global political landscape, the President of the United States, Donald Trump and his wife Melania have tested positive for COVID-19.

Mr Trump himself tweeted the shocking news on Wednesday night.

It’s a development that has thrown the November presidential election campaign into a tailspin.

At the same time, it has thrown into sharp focus Mr Trump’s at times almost dismissive and cavalier attitude towards the COVID-19 pandemic that’s been sweeping across the world.

Mr Trump is believed to have picked up the virus from his communications advisor Hope Hicks, and is now isolating along with First Lady Melania.

The president has been widely condemned for what many regard as recklessness in his overall management of the pandemic - both on a personal as well the national level.

The wider implications are now being assessed ranging from the running of the Trump White House and the implications for the election campaign, to contact tracing and widespread testing of all persons they would have had contact with both inside and outside government.

Despite the broad criticism of Mr Trump’s handling of the outbreak, wishes for a full and speedy recovery have been pouring in from all over the world hoping for a good outcome for him and the First Lady.
