Two More Firearms & Ammunition Handed in Over Weekend, 30 July

As the RCIPS continues in its efforts to encourage persons to relinquish their unlicensed firearms, two more firearms were handed in this past weekend.  A pistol and a rifle along with an amount of ammunition were handed into police via a trusted third party, as part of the 2024 RCIPS Gun Amnesty campaign.

The RCIPS announced last week that due to the disruption caused by hurricane Beryl, the Gun Amnesty has been extended to Sunday 11 August.  Until this date, persons will be able to hand in all illegal guns, gun components and ammunition without fear of prosecution, no questions asked.

“It’s heartening to see more firearms brought in this past weekend”, says Chief Superintendent Brad Ebanks.  “Let’s keep the momentum, as we still have a long way to go to rid our communities of the high number of firearms. The extension is evidence that we want to give persons every opportunity to take advantage of the Gun Amnesty”. 

Four options have been provided to the public in order to surrender guns, ammunition and any other weapons including drop off, pick-up, via a trusted party and via crime stoppers.
