Shortly before 10:40PM on Saturday, 2 July, officers conducting traffic checks on the Esterley Tibbetts Highway in the vicinity of the Camana Bay Roundabout, had cause to stop a vehicle. As the officers spoke to the lone occupant of the vehicle, they detected the strong scent of ganja. Officers then conducted a search of the vehicle under the Misuse of Drugs Act and recovered a bag containing multiple containers of ganja, along with drug paraphernalia.
The driver of the vehicle, a woman age 22 of George Town, was arrested on suspicion of possession of ganja with intent to supply. The woman, who was also determined to have been driving on a provisional license, was also arrested on suspicion of driving without being qualified.
Officers then conducted a search of the woman’s residence, during which a further quantity of ganja packaged in a number of containers, additional drug paraphernalia, and a quantity of cash, were recovered.
In total, over 35lbs of ganja were recovered.
The following day, a man, age 25 of George Town, who is the registered owner of the vehicle and resides at the same address, turned himself in to police and was also arrested on suspicion of possession of ganja with intent to supply.
Both persons have been granted bail as investigations continue.
