Each scholar was selected after displaying remarkable academic achievement, extra-curricular participation and community service. The scholarship funds were applied to each of the students tution.

Dr McAfee President and CEO of UCCI is very proud of each of the students receiving scholarships stating “Our students are hardworking and talented individuals who enrich our campus. They are demonstrated leaders who commit to academic excellence and service to their communities through co-curricular activities. We are grateful to Mr. Richard Abbott for his continued support of our students.”

The Abbott Aerospace SEZC Ltd Scholarship is funded by Mr. Richard Abbott. The scholarship started in the Spring of 2018, when Mr Abbott was able to teach an Engineering Management course on the UCCI campus. Due to Mr. Abbott’s company structure, he was not able to accept any payments from UCCI for his part-time teaching. The proposition to start a scholarship to fund students at UCCI was agreed in lieu of his funds.

Richard Abbott was proud of the students awarded as he said "It is a great pleasure to meet and to have the opportunity to help these UCCI students. It is a great way for Abbott Aerospace and any company here in the Cayman Islands to assist Cayman youth and the local community. We wish them well in their academic endeavors and not to forget that once they enter professional life, success is best celebrated by helping others achieve their own success."

To be considered for the Abbott Aerospace Scholarship students must demonstrate a positive engagement in community service, exhibit strong leadership qualities, be active in extracurricular activities, and show strength in academics. Most notably, those identified as Abbott Scholars must show a true passion to use their individual gifts and talents to make a tangible and positive impact on the world around them.
