Shortly before 5:00PM on Saturday, 21 December, officers conducting foot patrols on Seven Mile Public Beach had cause to approach a man who they observed consuming what appeared to be ganja, and who had a bag containing a quantity of what appeared to be ganja. The man attempted to flee on foot before officers could search him, however he was prevented from doing so by the officers. A struggle ensued, during which the man continued to resist officers’ attempts to detain him, leading to an officer deploying pepper spray in order to subdue him. Officers conducted a search of the man and his belongings and recovered a significant quantity of suspected ganja, as well as a quantity of cash in various currencies.
The man, age 24 of George Town, was arrested and taken into custody. He has since been formally charged with Consumption of Ganja, Possession of Ganja, Possession of Ganja with Intent to Supply, and Resisting Arrest. He appeared in court on December 23rd.
