Walkers Admits Alexandra Stasiuk To The Bar

Walkers is delighted to announce the admission of their newest associate Alexandra Stasiuk, who was called to the Cayman Islands Bar on 19 October after successfully completing her articles of clerkship with the firm.

Alexandra was a recipient of the 2018 Walkers Legal Scholarship. In 2016 she commenced her Bachelor of Laws at the Truman Bodden Law School where she completed her first two years locally and her final year abroad at the Liverpool campus in the United Kingdom, graduating with an Upper Second Class Honours degree. In 2020 Alexandra completed the Bar Professional Training Course with BPP University in Leeds and was awarded a Very Competent pass grade.

During her legal studies Alexandra participated in the Walkers Legal Internship Programme, spending the summers of 2018 and 2019 interning with the firm in different practice areas including Investment Funds and Insolvency and Dispute Resolution, where she gained practical, hands-on experience and familiarised herself with the teams, practice groups and the firm’s culture.

As part of her articles, Alexandra spent one month participating in the Judicial Clerkship Training Programme at the Cayman Islands Courts where she sat with the Honourable Cheryll Richards, KC and various other judges and magistrates. An initiative offered by the Cayman Islands Judicial Education Committee and the Cayman Islands Legal Practitioners Association, a judicial clerkship enables Articled Clerks to receive in-depth exposure to the Court’s work, apply learned skills, understand the inner workings of the Courts and learn about the process of judicial decision-making. 

Walkers’ Global Managing Partner Ingrid Pierce moved Alexandra’s application before the Honourable Justice Richards, KC. Ingrid commended Alexandra for successfully completing her studies virtually and in the midst of the global pandemic. Ingrid was also pleased to share with those in the Courtroom that Alexandra competed in mooting competitions at both BPP University and Gray’s Inn, reaching the quarterfinalist stage in each event. She noted that: “Alex has demonstrated a great eagerness to learn. I am sure she will be a great asset to the firm.”

During her speech to the Court Alexandra noted that before commencing her law school journey she first explored her love for literature, and this passion for reading and writing as well as the desire to help others is what directed her down a path towards the law. Her love for literature continues as Alexandra is a participant in the Cayman Islands Legal Practitioners Association Prison Literacy Programme, teaching literacy skills to inmates at HMP Northward.

Walkers’ Partner and Chair of the Trainee Committee, David Collins commented: “Alexandra will make a fine addition to the Walker’s legal team.”

Alexandra joins the Walkers Insolvency and Dispute Resolution Group and is the 62nd articled clerk to have trained in the firm’s Cayman Islands office.
