On 6 February 2019, Walkers welcomed over 150 guests to its annual career fair. Staff from the Cayman Islands Government WORC department as well as students, faculty members and parents from multiple high schools and tertiary institutions in the Cayman Islands attended the event to learn more about the broad range of job opportunities available within the legal industry.
Hosted at Walkers' Elgin Avenue office, members of the Walkers Trainee Committee presented to the students a variety of employment, internship and scholarship opportunities the firm offers. Students were also able to meet and speak with Walkers staff from various groups within the firm, including legal services, IT, compliance, marketing, human resources, facility services, project management and professional services.
Following the presentation the students from Cayman Academy, Cayman Islands Further Education Centre, Cayman Prep and High School, Clifton Hunter High School, Hope Academy, John Gray High School, St. Ignatius Catholic School, Triple C, ICCI, UCCI and Truman Bodden Law School, participated in a themed quiz titled "What Will Your Number Be?", a slogan that reflects the firm's latest student and graduate recruitment campaign. A number of prizes were snapped up by delighted students who managed to ace the quiz.
Jordana Clarke, Head of Learning and Development, commented "We were thrilled that so many students and members of the community were able to attend our fair and discover the varied career and talent development opportunities at Walkers."
Walkers has a proud tradition of training the next generation of Cayman's workforce. The firm's legal training programme has been in existence since 1983 when the firm brought in its first two articled clerks - Frank Banks and Wayne Panton - making it the oldest legal training programme in the Cayman Islands. Since then, Walkers has expanded its training offerings to include development programmes for Caymanians, such as the Junior Legal Secretary Training Programme and the Fiduciary Services Development Programme. Walkers also actively mentors students and offers them work experience and internships each year.
