Young Mechanics Graduate: Superior Auto Continues to Develop Young Caymanians

The sixth cohort of the Superior Auto Training Programme graduated recently.

The two year programme equips Caymanian young men with the skills for life and provides them with an accredited certification as professional mechanics.

Organisers of the vocational training and owners of Superior Auto, Mrs. Denise and Mr. Marc Mecado said it was a life-long dream and journey to create a programme that would avail young men in Cayman of crucial vocational skills.

The couple described their partners in the private and public sector as dream makers and noted that they appreciated the support from their community partners throughout the years.

Deputy Governor and Head of the Civil Service, the Honourable Franz Manderson applauded the graduates and lauded the efforts of the Superior Auto team, noting that the young men would now be, “…taking their careers for a test drive.”

“Training makes you employable and character and attitude will make the difference,” said Mr. Manderson, who pointed out that the Premier, the Honourable Julianna O’connor Connolly - who flew to Grand Cayman from the Sister Islands for the ceremony - had also been supportive of the programme when she was the Minister for Education.

“It takes a lot of confidence to name a company ‘Superior’ but Denise and Marc, as well as their staff have lived up to that,” said Mr. Manderson.

He said that the programme was proof that patience and commitment to strong values is the way for our youngsters to leave their tracks in the sands of Cayman’s success.

Former Deputy Premier, the Honourable Andre Ebanks noted that Superior Auto is a prime example of how this kind of programme can really work in a community.

“It’s what people want and it is effective,” he remarked.

Alumni from previous cohorts of the Superior Auto Training Programme were also on hand to offer words of encouragement to their counterparts, with past graduate, Mr. Michale Jefferson telling the most recent class of his journey.

“Every day I find a way to still use what I learnt here. I’m happy to have learnt a trade and have traveled and met life-long friends along the way,” he said, adding that is life had changed immeasurably as a result of having marketable skills.

The Superior Auto Training Programme is now fully accredited in technical and vocational training, an achievement that will assist in driving Cayman’s economy for years to come, according to the government officials on hand.
