2022 BUTTERFIELD SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT ANNOUNCED

Butterfield Bank (Cayman) Limited (‘Butterfield’) has announced talented Caymanian student, Olivia Weaver, as this year’s undergraduate scholarship recipient.

Olivia Weaver was awarded the Butterfield Undergraduate Scholarship, established in 1993 to celebrate Butterfield’s 25th anniversary in the Islands and to support Caymanian students in pursuing further education, part of a wider annual scholarship programme. She will receive $30,000 towards her degree in Speech and Language Therapy at the University of Essex in the UK, an amount that can be maintained for up to four years of study. Her goal is to become a Speech and Language Therapist to support people in the Cayman Islands as she understands the importance of communication and the impact it has on everyday life.

An active member of her school community, Ms. Weaver was a school prefect and a member of the Protect Our Future environmental club. In her downtime she focuses on her love of dance at a local studio and helps in their classes for young students. She is currently working towards achieving her Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award.

Mike McWatt, Butterfield’s Managing Director, Cayman, said, ‘We offer huge congratulations to Olivia. She has distinguished herself as a dedicated and hard-working student who wants to give back to the community. We are pleased to be able to play a part in supporting her future successes.

‘Across the group, Butterfield has invested almost $2.5 million in scholarships over the past five years. We understand the importance of education and we’re proud to empower young people to pursue their aspirations, providing educational opportunities from scholarships and summer internships to our graduate talent programme.’

The annual scholarship programme offers financial assistance to a number of promising students each year based on academic excellence, community involvement and sporting attainments, financial need and a candidate’s demonstrated ability to lead.

Applications for the 2023 scholarship programme will open towards the end of this year. For more information on scholarships, internships and other educational and career opportunities, please visit www.butterfieldgroup.com
