The always entertaining 2023 Inter-Primary Cricket Competition began this past Friday with the introduction for the first time of a competitive girls’ league to complement the already existing boys’ league.
The competition runs from May to June with 12 participating schools that are divided into two zones (Zone A and B) in the girls’ and boys’ leagues. Games are 12 overs with each bowler restricted to bowling three overs. Field sizes are roughly half a football field and teams consist of 11 players. Games are played on Friday afternoons starting at noon (girls) and 1:00 p.m. (boys) at various primary school venues.
The Inter-Primary Cricket Competition is organised and coordinated by the Department of Education Services and the Department of Sports and sponsored by CUC and the Cayman Cricket Association.
Schools in Zone A in the girls’ league include Cayman Prep B, Cayman Academy, Edna Moyle Primary, East End Primary, Joanna Clarke Primary, Theoline L. McCoy Primary and Sir John A. Cumber Primary A. Zone B in the girls’ league consists of Cayman International School (CIS), Cayman Prep A, George Town Primary, Prospect Primary, Red Bay Primary, Sir John A. Cumber Primary B and St. Ignatius Catholic.
Schools in Zone A in the boys’ league include Cayman Prep B, Cayman Academy, Edna Moyle Primary, East End Primary, Joanna Clarke Primary and Theoline L. McCoy Primary. Zone B in the boys’ league consists of CIS, Cayman Prep A, George Town Primary, Prospect Primary, Red Bay Primary, Sir John A. Cumber Primary and St. Ignatius Catholic.
Results from the first day of competition included:
Zone A Girls: Cayman Academy defeated Theoline L. McCoy Primary 45 runs to 36 runs, Cayman Prep B got past Joanna Clarke Primary 39 runs to 38 runs and Sir John A Cumber Primary A got the better of Edna Moyle Primary 61 runs to 42 runs. East End Primary were not scheduled to play.
2023 Inter-Primary Cricket Competition
Zone B Girls: St. Ignatius Catholic defeated CIS 68 runs to 64 runs, Cayman Prep A downed Sir John A. Cumber Primary B 58 runs to 51 runs and Prospect Primary got past Red Bay Primary 36 runs to 34 runs. George Town Primary were not scheduled to play.
Zone A Boys: Cayman Academy beat Theoline L. McCoy Primary 59 runs to 57 runs, East End Primary outlasted Joanna Clarke Primary and Cayman Prep B topped Edna Moyle Primary 111 runs to 57 runs.
Zone B Boys: Sir John A. Cumber Primary defeated Cayman Prep A 60 runs to 58 runs, Red Bay Primary beat Prospect Primary 64 runs to 56 runs and St. Ignatius Catholic were victorious over CIS. George Town Primary were not scheduled to play.
Round 2 of the 2023 season continues this Friday, May 12 with a full schedule of games including:
Zone A Girls: East End Primary vs. Theoline L. McCoy Primary (at Theoline L. McCoy Primary), Edna Moyle Primary vs. Cayman Academy (at the Annex Field), Joanna Clarke Primary vs. Sir John A. Cumber Primary A (at Prospect Primary).
Zone B Girls: George Town Primary vs. St. Ignatius Catholic (at the Annex Field), Cayman Prep A vs. CIS (at the Camana Bay Field) and Red Bay Primary vs. Sir John A. Cumber Primary B (at Red Bay Primary).
Zone A Boys: Edna Moyle Primary vs. Theoline L. McCoy Primary (at Theoline L. McCoy Primary), Joanna Clarke Primary vs. Cayman Academy (at the Annex Field), Cayman Prep B vs. East End Primary (at Prospect Primary).
Zone B Boys: George Town Primary vs. St. Ignatius Catholic (at the Annex Field), Cayman Prep A vs. CIS (at the Camana Bay Field) and Red Bay Primary vs. Sir John A. Cumber Primary (at Red Bay Primary).
