The highly anticipated 2025 Deputy Governor’s 5K Challenge is set to return this March, uniting the community under the inspiring theme, “Empowering with Every Step.”

This annual charity event kicks off in Little Cayman on 9 March, continues in Cayman Brac on 16 March, and culminates with the main event on Grand Cayman on 30 March.

“We are thrilled to announce that this year’s proceeds will support the Cayman Islands Girls’ Brigade, the Cayman Islands Scouts Association, and One2One,” shared Deputy Governor Hon. Franz Manderson. “These organisations have been pivotal in nurturing our youth, instilling values that resonate throughout our community.”

Continuing their tradition of generous support, Appleby has once again committed to the top sponsorship tier and will this year be the diamond sponsor. “At Appleby, we believe in actively contributing to the communities where we live and work. Supporting the Deputy Governor’s 5K Challenge aligns with our commitment to fostering positive change and empowering the youth of the Cayman Islands,” said Norman Klein, Managing Partner, Appleby.

In expressing gratitude for the support, the three charities explained how they will use the funds. “The funds derived will be a major boost to our finances as we seek to upgrade the consort of instruments for our Scout Band. We also have a dire need for transportation, and it is hoped that funds obtained might enable us to respond, even partially, to this need,” said Executive Commissioner, Winston George Hayle.

National Secretary of the Cayman Islands Girls Brigade, Melanie Ebanks-Jackson said “the funds will be dedicated to creating life-changing opportunities for young girls and leaders.”

She added, it will allow us to continue investing in child safeguarding and leadership training for our dedicated leaders, equipping them with the skills and knowledge needed to guide and empower the next generation, whilst instilling Christian values to the girls we serve.”

In commenting, Programme Manager of One2One, Natasha Wight stated, “With these funds, we will expand our mentorship programs, provide crucial support for the vulnerable young people we serve, and create meaningful opportunities through young adult group mentoring in financial literacy, job readiness, and community networking.”

For her part, DG’s 5K Challenge co-chairperson Jennifer Ahearn emphasised the importance of early registration, especially for competitive participants aiming for officials results or prizes. “Secure your spot and join us in this celebration of community and wellness,” she added.

Registration is now open. Sign up at www.racecaribbean.net . Fees are $25 for adults 18 and older and $10 for children 17 and under.
