Deajra Tulloch Competed for Team Cayman in the 2022 NORCECA Beach Volleyball Tournament
The Cayman Islands Volleyball Federation (CIVF) will once again host one leg of the annual NORCECA Beach Volleyball Tour and welcome 32 teams from at least 17 countries. The Security Centre Beach Volleyball Tournament will take place from 19 to 21 May and is the third stop on the tour. Teams will be competing for points that will help them in their efforts to qualify for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
The Federation has successfully hosted a stop in Cayman on the NORCECA Beach Volleyball Tour for 11 years, the most recent in November 2022 when the USA dominated both the men’s and women’s competitions. Countries expected to compete alongside the Cayman Islands include USA, Canada, Puerto Rico, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Mexico, St. Kitts & Nevis, Bahamas, Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, Haiti, Jamaica, Bermuda and Trinidad & Tobago. Cuba has also confirmed its participation.
“I am absolutely elated that the CIVF has decided to host a stop on the NORCECA Continental Tour. Not only is it an opportunity to bring elite volleyball athletes to the Cayman Islands but it provides a unique experience for the public to see their own Caymanian athletes compete and play against world class athletes,” said Dr. Trevor Theroulde, Technical Director of the Cayman Islands Volleyball Federation. “I am hopeful that the players will continue to receive the support from the public as they have in previous years. They have been working extremely hard to ensure an elevated level of performance and to make everyone proud of their accomplishments on the court.”
Volleyball was named a ‘focus sport’ in 2020 by the Cayman Islands Government, which has provided CIVF with additional funds to continue building the sport from the grassroots and attracting young Caymanians as well as position itself to produce elite junior and senior class players for international competitions.
The achievements of CIVF and its athletes as well as its ability to put on world class international tournaments has drawn the attention of companies in the community who are impressed by the quality of the programmes offered and want to support youth development.
“The Security Centre is thrilled to contribute our professional expertise and services again to The Security Centre 2023 NORCECA Beach Volleyball Tour to help ensure a safe and successful event for everyone. Our title sponsorship fuels our goal to support Caymanian athletes by providing an opportunity for Team Cayman to compete at a regional level, build skills and experience, and inspire the next generation of volleyball stars,” said Abrahem Ghazarian, Chief Executive Officer of The Security Centre, which is sponsoring the tournament for a second year.
The Security Centre NORCECA Beach Volleyball Tournament 2023 will take place on Seven Mile Public Beach. General admission to uncovered seating is free but VIP and covered seating tickets are available for purchase at eventpro.ky.
