Back to School. Scholarships: grasp the opportunity

For students leaving school in 2021 and planning to further their education, it is not too early to start thinking about scholarship opportunities. They can be in the Cayman Islands or in North America. Whether it is an apprenticeship in a skilled trade or study at college or university, there are many scholarships available from governmental, non - governmental organisations and private sector companies.

Sometimes, students miss out because they apply too late, are unaware of the academic requirements or are simply overwhelmed by the application process. Some schools offer counseling and mentoring programmes to guide students towards their career choices. Students are advised on the appropriate courses to study and are also provided with internship opportunities. Ask if this is available at your school.

One such programme is the Aim Higher school- based mentoring programme that offers trained support and advice to 40 selected students enrolled at John Gray High School. The programme is designed for those who need help achieving their potential, with the goal being to help students map out their career paths and further their educational opportunities. For more information on the programme, contact Laura Hatfield at   LHatfield@solomonharris.com or at 949-0488 .
