The Bakertilly Corporate Squash League recommenced its second season on Thursday October 15th 2020 at the South Sound Squash Club. Having missed the first season of the year, the teams at Scott’s Equipment and Walkers Global appear to have been doing some secret training as they came out firing with a result of 1st and 2nd place respectively after the first week’s play. However, the defending champs Baker Tilly was not to be out done; they promptly shifted gears to regain the top spot with a commanding lead after the second week of play. The SSSC Ladies made their successful debut in the second week, defeating DART Two in competitive spirit. Scotts Equipment is sure to rally back this week after a bye in the second weeks play.
Usually we have a stand out match of the night each week and the start of this season has been no exception. Neil McComb, the youngster playing at the B string level for Phoenix Group has had some exciting matches in both weeks. Neil’s 1st match against Robert Tate of Baker Tilly went to 3 games ending with a 7/7 tie in the 3rd, however his points in games 1 and 2 earned him the overall win. His week two match against Christian Henning of KPMG also went to 3 games with the youngster taking the lead in the 1st game. Christian rallied back to win the 2nd in an exciting 16 – 14 win, taking the match into the 3 game decider. At the end of the 3rd game, both players ended up with equal points in total! This is where the good ole rock, paper, scissors would come into play.
Special mention goes to the D string match between Norrin of Scott’s Equipment and Erin of Dart Too who also had a 3-set battle with rallies that had the crowd cheering with glee. It is always good to witness matches of these kind as in competition the spotlight often goes to the best players.
Play continues this and every Thursday at 6:30pm, with playoffs and finals on the 17th December 2020

Each match is best of 3 games to 15 points - you have to win by 2 clear points if score is 14-14.
If the score is 1 game all, the 3rd game is played on a running clock for 3 minutes. At the end of the the 3 minutes, the person that has the most points wins the match. Its important to note that every point counts as the match result will be reorded on points won rather than games.
There is one doubles game to 15 points at the end of all string play.
