Cayman National has once again received the prestigious “Bank of the Year” award from The Banker Magazine, giving the organisation one more reason to celebrate in a year of celebrations marking its 50th anniversary.
Judged on criteria ranging from performance and strategic initiatives to technology and sustainability, Cayman National was ranked first in the Cayman Islands for banking, winning the accolade for a record eighth time.
The Banker magazine awarded Cayman National the top spot for a combination of robust growth and the success of its strategic priorities which focused on strengthening relationships with retail customers, responding to evolving customer needs and technical advancements made this year.
The judging panel was impressed by Cayman National’s focus on the customer experience, from making a broader range of loans available to consumers to improving the functionality of their mobile banking app and website.
Digital initiatives such as their new Interactive Teller Machines (ITMs), where customers benefit from real-time banking and can speak with advisers via videoconferencing, provide a convenient alternative to over-the-counter transactions. The introduction of Interactive Remote Services (IRS) represents a modern approach to banking and is a core part of Cayman National’s strategy to enhance customer experience, improve operational efficiency, increase accessibility and bolster security.
Cayman National’s long-standing commitment to sustainability was evident in a range of community-based activities, from preserving Cayman’s cultural heritage through the donation of the Truman B catboat to the Cayman Catboat Club in July to nurturing the island’s natural environment by planting 50 trees at Malportas Pond in partnership with the National Trust for the Cayman Islands last month.
“This award recognizes not only the achievements of the past year, but the culmination of Cayman National’s efforts to be the bank of choice for the Cayman community over the last 50 years,” said Cayman National’s chief executive officer Janet Hislop. “I am immensely proud of the team’s ongoing efforts to ensure we are ready to meet the needs of our customers in the 21st century and beyond, and we are grateful to The Banker magazine for this recognition.”
Cayman National received the award for Bank of the Year 2024 at a gala held by The Banker magazine in London on 4 December, where long-serving staff member Avolyn Howell was on hand to collect the award. Currently Senior Vice President of Personal & Business Banking and Credit Risk Management, Howell has worked at Cayman National for 45 of the bank’s 50 years in operation.
“Cayman National’s strength is in our people, who genuinely care about our customers and our community. As an equal opportunities employer, we strive to ensure Cayman National is one of the best places to work, not just in the Cayman Islands but at any financial institution anywhere in the world.”
Founded 50 years ago, Cayman National Bank and Trust Co. Ltd first opened its doors on North Church Street in George Town as bank majority-owned by Caymanians to serve the local community. Over the past five decades, it has grown into one of the leading financial services companies in the Cayman Islands.
