The British Prime Minister Liz Truss has resigned.
She will stay on in office in a caretaker capacity until a successor is chosen.
Ms Truss made the shock announcement just after 1:30pm UK time today (Thursday 20th October) outside the office of the Prime Minister at No. 10 Downing St.
Her 45-day tenure was the shortest in British political history and marks the culmination of a series of crises that have plagued her government since she took over the role on September 6th.
