Sports 19 Feb, 2025 Follow News

The Cayman Islands Athletic Association (CIAA) is proud to announce that a team of 16 talented young athletes will represent the Cayman Islands at the Gibson Relays, one of the most prestigious track and field events in the Caribbean. Scheduled for February 22, 2025, in Kingston, Jamaica, this highly competitive event serves as a pivotal development milestone, offering athletes the opportunity to compete against some of the region’s best talents while gaining valuable international experience.

The Cayman Islands delegation will participate in various relay events, demonstrating their speed, endurance, and teamwork while gaining invaluable exposure to high-performance competition.

Delroy Murray, President of the CIAA, highlighted the significance of this event:

“The Gibson Relays provide an invaluable opportunity for our young athletes to test themselves at a higher level, refine their skills, and gain exposure to world-class competition. This initiative is not just about the 2025 season — it is about laying the foundation for their long-term development in athletics. Competing in events like these helps shape their discipline, resilience, and ambition — qualities that are essential for success both on and off the track.”

He also thanked Deputy Premier Kenneth Bryan, Minister Jay Ebanks, and World Athletics for their steadfast support in making this opportunity possible.
