CAYMAN ISLANDS SAILORS HEAD TO CAC GAMES

Cayman Islands sailors Charlotte Webster and Andres McDermot have headed off to the XXIV Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador, El Salvador. The pair are accompanied by the Cayman Islands National Sailing Centre Director of Sailing and Head Coach Raph Harvey.

This will be McDermot’s 3rd appearance at the CAC Games, having previously competed at the Mexico and Colombia editions of the regional event in the men’s Laser class. For Webster, this is her debut at a major multi-sport event that will serve as a good test of her skills ahead of August’s Sailing World Championships, taking place in the Netherlands.

The men’s and women’s sailing events are also a qualifying event for the XIX Pan American Games taking place in October in Chile. The Cayman women’s qualifying spot is already secured, but McDermot is hoping he can secure a qualifying place in the men’s sailing competition as well.

Racing at the CAC Games starts on Sunday 25th on Lake Ilopango, a volcanic crater lake near San Salvador, just slightly bigger than Grand Cayman’s North Sound.
