Monday March 11th, 2024 was a day to celebrate Commonwealth Day around the world and Cayman Prep and High School-Primary School celebrated by beginning the day with a parade of flags. Each class from Kindergarten through to Year 6 chose one country from the Commonwealth to study for the day.
The students paraded around the field with flags from their chosen country of study. The parade was led by Ms. Debra McLaughlan, Director of Cayman Prep and High School and Mrs. Anna Johnson, Human Resources Manager.
Ms. Brenda Bryce, Cayman Cultural Ambassador and SENCo for the Primary School led the morning assembly under the cabana following the parade. She spoke about the meaning of Commonwealth and this year’s theme of “One Resilient Common Future” Miss Vanessa Burke, Cayman Islands Youth Ambassador then spoke to the students about how they are all ambassadors for themselves and their country and how they have a voice for the future of Cayman and the Commonwealth.
The students spent the day in their classrooms engaged in meaningful learning about their chosen countries.
Nurse Emily “It was amazing! One of the best days of the year because it was learning through colour, collaborative, everyone was involved, and we all learned something about our fellow commonwealth countries.”
Rolston Anglin KGH “I liked learning about the Jamaican Patois language and waving the flags in the parade.”
Mia Whelan 4H “We learned about the beautiful waters and the kayaks and about the kind people of Papua New Guinea”.
