Rejuvenated after a two-week mid-term break, the majority of primary school teams returned to the field this past Saturday, October 31 as the fourth round of games were played in the 2020 CUC Primary Football League (PFL) and the Girls’ Primary Football League (GPFL).
In the CUC GPFL, Cayman Prep Red recorded their first win of the season overcoming a very determined George Town Primary outfit 2-1 at the Annex Field. A goal each from Gabi Bowerman and Stephanie Teasdale secured the victory for the young Cayman Prep ladies.
In Group A of the CUC PFL, it was Cayman International School 4 vs. Savannah Primary 0 (Under 9); Cayman International School 4 vs. Savannah Primary 0 (Under 11), Sir John A. Cumber Primary 4 vs. Truth For Youth 0 (Under 9; respect rule), Sir John A. Cumber Primary 4 vs. Truth For Youth 0 (Under 11; respect rule), George Town Primary 2 vs. Cayman Prep 9B 0 (Under 9) and George Town Primary 0 vs. Cayman Prep 11B 1 (Under 11).
In Group B, a number of rescheduled games were played during the mid-term break and the preceding week. These included Red Bay Primary 2 vs. NorthEast Schools 2 (Under 11; played on Thursday, October 22); Red Bay Primary 3 vs. Theoline L. McCoy Primary 1 (Under 9; played on Saturday, October 24), Red Bay Primary 1 vs. Theoline L. McCoy Primary 2 (Under 11; played on Thursday, October 29) and Cayman Prep 11A 4 vs. Prospect Primary 0 (Under 11; respect rule; played on Friday, October 30).
In Group B games played this past Saturday, Cayman Prep 9A overcame Triple C 2-0 in an Under 9 encounter thanks to goals from Nathaniel Lindsay in the 10th minute and Luke Ivey in the 15th minute.
In the Under 11 matchup, Cayman Prep 11A ran out 4-0 winners as the respect rule was enforced. The valiant Triple C Crusaders fell behind in the 2nd minute from an own goal but defended stoutly for the remainder of the first half taming the Cayman Prep ‘blue’ wave up until the 35th minute when Oscar Gladstone-Brady scored his school’s second. Triple Cs Ajani Osborne was superb in goal as he pulled off a number of excellent saves to keep the score at a minimum. Prep’s Michael Godfrey and Levi Jack rounded off the scoring in the 44th and 50th minutes respectively for the defending Under 11 champions prior to the respect rule coming into effect.
In other Group B games, it was Theoline L. McCoy Primary 2 vs. South Sound Schools 1 (Under 9), Theoline L. McCoy Primary 1 vs. South Sound Schools 3 (Under 11) and Prospect Primary 1 vs. NorthEast Schools 0 (Under 11).
The CUC PFL and GPFL leagues continue this Saturday, November 7 with fifth round games at the Annex Field, West Bay Town Hall Field, Theoline L. McCoy Primary, Red Bay Primary and St. Ignatius Catholic School fields.
