Cayman Prep secure third title in a row

The 2020 CUC Primary Football League (PFL) and the Girls’ Primary Football League (GPFL) concluded this past Saturday, December 12 with the CUC PFL Champions Cup and Consolation Cup finals and third-place games and the final round of regular season games in the GPFL.

Cayman Prep yet again rose to the top and stamped their dominance on this year’s season emerging from the finals with the boys Under 11 league championship and Under 9 league runners-up honours. On the ladies’ side, Cayman Prep Blue took home the GPFL league title.

 

CUC GPFL Under 11 League:

Cayman Prep Blue defeated their Cayman Prep Red companions 4-0 (respect rule enforced) to claim the 2020 CUC GPFL Under 11 League Championship. Cayman International School finished second after beating Triple C 4-0 and St. Ignatius Catholic secured third-place in the league with a 4-0 victory over Prospect Primary. Other scores were George Town Primary 1 vs. Sir John A. Cumber Primary 1 and Savannah Primary 0 vs. Theoline L. McCoy Primary 0.

 

CUC PFL Under 9 Consolation Cup:

George Town Primary’s parents created the most noise of the day after their Under 9 boys secured the Under 9 Consolation Cup following a thrilling 1-0 victory over Theoline L. McCoy Primary.

 

CUC PFL Under 9 Champions Cup:

Cayman International School (CIS) came from behind to win the Under 9 Champions Cup against their private school rivals Cayman Prep 9A. Harry Heinicke opened the scoring for Cayman Prep 9A but Luke Kerr equalised for CIS just before half-time and Ben Lyne secured the win late in the second half.

Although on the losing end of this thrilling final, Cayman Prep 9As standout defender Kupakwashe ‘KP’ Mutomba was awarded The Gerome Graham Most Valuable Player Award for his voracious defending and excellent play in the final.

Savannah Primary grabbed third-place in the Under 9 Champions Cup following a narrow 2-1 penalty shootout win over St. Ignatius Catholic. Both schools could not find the net in regulation or extra time and had to rely on penalties to settle this entertaining contest.

 

CUC PFL Under 11 Consolation Cup:

Savannah Primary’s older boys secured their school’s second cup of the day with a 2-1 win over Truth For Youth in the Under 11 Consolation Cup final. Thomas Wood and Ibra Joven scored for Savannah Primary while John-Mark Thomas pulled one back for Truth For Youth late in the game to create a few tense moments for the eventual champions.

 

CUC PFL Under 11 Champions Cup:

Two-time defending Under 11 Champions Cup champions Cayman Prep 11A claimed their third Under 11 league title in a row beating CIS 2-0 in a very entertaining encounter. Oscar Gladstone-Brady’s double secured the title for his school and earned him The Justin Henry Most Valuable Player Award for his outstanding performance in the final.
