Saturday morning excitement returns to primary school fields across Grand Cayman as the 2023 CUC Primary Football League (PFL) and the CUC Girls’ Primary Football League (GPFL) regular seasons kick-off this Saturday, September 23. The 2023 season marks CUC’s 17th year as exclusive sponsors of these flourishing youth football leagues.
In the CUC PFL Under 9 division, defending 2023 league champions Cayman Prep 9A look to add yet another trophy to their already crowded school trophy cabinet as they embark on a fourth consecutive Under 9 league title. Under 9 Consolation Cup champions George Town Primary will be out to defend their championship with the same guile they displayed in 2022.
In what has become a tradition of winning, the CUC PFL Under 11 division defending 2022 league champions Cayman Prep 11A look to continue their dominance in this division as they go for a record-setting seventh consecutive league title. Under 11 Consolation Cup champions Cayman Prep 11B are looking to go one better this year as they vie for the coveted Under 11 league championship, a title they hope to wrest from their fellow classmates.
Schools competing in the CUC PFL this year include Sir John A. Cumber Primary, George Town Primary, Red Bay Primary, Prospect Primary, Joanna Clarke Primary, Theoline L. McCoy Primary, NorthEast Schools (a combination of Edna Moyle Primary and East End Primary), Cayman International School, Cayman Prep, St. Ignatius Catholic School, Triple C School, Cayman Academy, Small Schools (a combination of Montessori By the Sea, Hope Academy and First Baptist Christian School), Cayman Brac and newcomers Island Primary and Footsteps School.
In the CUC GPFL Under 11 division, Cayman Prep look to emulate the boys as they continue their dominance in the girls’ league. In 2022, Cayman Prep defeated St. Ignatius Catholic in the final to secure the title.
Schools competing in the CUC GPFL include Cayman Prep, Cayman International School, George Town Primary, Joanna Clarke Primary, Sir John A. Cumber Primary, St. Ignatius Catholic, Triple C and newcomers Red Bay Primary and Island Primary.
The CUC GPFL Under 11 league will follow a round-robin structure with each school playing the other schools once.
Supporters of the beautiful game are encouraged to go out to the various sports facilities and school fields and show their support for these Under 9 and Under 11 athletes as they compete for school pride.
Season opening games will be played at the Annex Field, Camana Bay SC, St. Ignatius Catholic, West Bay Town Hall Field, Prospect Primary and the Ronald Forbes Field.
